"If they really want people to stop immigrating illegally, then give us an opportunity. Give us a chance."?

The USA Today story and so many others like it all tell everyone what we already know: that the demand to immigrate to the US far outstrips the supply of visas available. What these stories NEVER tell us is how many annual immigrants is a sustainable number, what changes in immigration laws are needed to maintain that number, and what we will do with people like Yudi who still can't get a visa because the increased number of immigrant visas available has yielded an increase in the number of applicants. In poor countries like Guatemala, there are millions of people like Yudi who want a better life. Many of these people do not have the money or courage to risk paying smugglers but they would line up at the US embassy to apply for immigrant visas if anyone could apply.
