What does it mean when a boy says "don't jump to conclusions"?

Okay so I've been texting this kid for about 2 and a half months now and we stopped talking for a little while we hung out in person like once. But when i saw him after we stopped talking we didn't talk. i messaged him that night saying thanks for saying hi because I'm not going to say hi HE has too right? anyways he said that he was sorry and he was on vacation but he was "thinking about me the whole time" and we started talking again he kept asking me, "do you like me" "so do you like me" and i answered by saying maybe with a wink face this way i didn't look desperate LOL anyway he kept saying how he wanted to kiss me but then he said he had cooties and i slipped and said the EW the person i like has cooties and he said, "Woah we haven't even hung out yet don't jump to conclusions" what is that supposed to mean HELP.
