Question about the Harold Lloyd clock in BTTF?

Did they have Doc hang off a clock like that because the actor (Christopher Lloyd) had the same last name as Harold Lloyd, who did the same? Or is just a coincidence that both people do the same scene in different movies with the same last name, Lloyd? Just wondering :P.
